Experience the Atmosphere at Roto House

Port Macquarie for the first time a settlement in the 1820s, and many houses and buildings that were built during this period are a thing of the past. One that survived the test of time is called Roto House.

It is estimated that Roto House was built around the end of the 19th century by John Flynn. Flynn did a study in Port Macquarie and built the house for his family in Victoria. Already in the 1890s, the area where the house was built was considered the outskirts of the city. Now, Roto House sits at the heart of Port Macquarie in the middle of a park area known as Port Macquarie Nature Reserve.

National Parks and Wildlife Service bought this house and the land around it in 1970 to add to its other properties acquired in 1966. This land makes the rest of the reservation. After the restoration of some verandahs, Roto House was finally opened to the public as the National Parks and Wildlife and the District Office of the Information Center. This office has been moved to another place, but the house is still very open. It is considered the key element of an almost fully authenticated and rare glimpse into 19th century life, with the paperwork and documents to support the information above. Flynn family members lived in the house until 1976, including a daughter of John Flynn. They spoke extensively about their lives in Broken House and had pictures and documents of the tender to the Park Service.

The great hall of ten Roto House was built in 1890 in red mahogany and redwood in California. The roof is made of corrugated iron. The extensive property in the house was equipped with stables, a dairy, stables, a shed sulky axis of grapes, orchards, vegetable and flower gardens. Flower gardens are still in place, and a tennis court was built, despite the original location of the units are clearly defined.

Some rooms have new names and uses. The old laundry has become a warehouse, pantry, bathroom, library and office, laboratory, lounge, now an office, master bedroom and living room is now the Information and Interpretation.

Visitors are invited to come and take a guided tour of the house broken. Wheelchair access is available here. Park and Wildlife volunteers will guide you from room to room and talk about the history of the building. They can also answer any questions visitors may have about the house or the period when the family lived in the house.

The house has been carefully decorated with authentic furniture and artifacts from the 1890s. This gives an air Roto House of the mysteries of the past few days. One feels almost as if they have increased in time travel stories where the generous rooms and imagine what he might say the walls, if they could talk.

Finally broken home has its own personality! This house has a subtle energy, which is very cheerful. The atmosphere here is one of peace and order. They obviously reflect the former owners, who must have been a happy family.
