The Paul Revere House – One of the Country’s Earliest House Museums

Built in the year of 1680, the Paul Revere House is one of Boston’s national historic landmarks as it is the city’s oldest building in the downtown area. A reflection of an era long past, the house stands as one the few remaining structures from the ancient times of the Colonial American period. A visit to this incredible historical site is a must see for visitors to Boston.

The house was originally built by a wealthy merchant by the name of Robert Howard and was bought in 1770 by the American patriot and silversmith Paul Revere. He sold it in 1800 and it became a place that was occupied by several different businesses such as a cigar factory, a fruit shop and a candy store. To prevent the demolition of the place, Paul Revere’s grandson bought the place in 1902.

Containing a long line of family traditions and memories of the Revere household, it was taken over by the Paul Revere Memorial Association. This Association was formed with the intention to upkeep and preserves the building that was once home this famous figure. Since 1908, the place was opened up as house museum and is one of the oldest in the country.

A history lover’s dream, the house is filled with many treasured artifacts and has been restored to its original appearance. Much of the house’s structure, such as some of its doors, window frames, and parts of foundation and inner walls are that which existed since it was first built. Upon visiting, you will be able to see furnishings of a Colonial period in 2 upstair chambers that were once occupied by the Revere family. Additionally, a visit to the house would not be complete without viewing and taking photos of the courtyard that feature a 900 pound bell amidst other items. These are believed to be from the USS Constitution and manufactured by Paul Revere and his sons.

Visitors to the area staying in one of the hotels in Boston should definitely take some time to view this historical house among the other attractions of the city. Amid the many Boston hotels, the Langham Hotel Boston provides an ideal base from which to easily access the Paul Revere House with its ancient historical value and charm.
